Memo to ECNGOC Stakeholders

URGENT NOTICE TO ECNGOC MEMBERS, PARTNERS AND THE PUBLIC
Re: SANGOCO Eastern Cape

The leadership and management of the Eastern Cape NGO Coalition (ECNGOC) have become aware of the recruitment and meetings that have been organised to set up an organisation named: SANGOCO Eastern Cape, by a former Chairperson of the ECNGOC, Mr. Jimmy Gotyana who was removed from office by the ECNGOC Provincial Executive Committee in December 2008.  There have been efforts made to form collaborations with various other important entities in the Province. We wish to advise our members and partners that this new organisation has no linkages in any form, with the ECNGOC.

The ECNGOC has worked within the Eastern Cape for 15 years, advocating for socio-economic transformation for the benefit of the marginalized rural communities of the Eastern Cape. It is a representative structure of NGOs, CBOs and FBOs across the length and breadth of the Province, building capacity and supporting these organisations to become effective in their development tasks.

The ECNGOC also represents the NGO and CBO sector in key structures of development across the province. It has District Conveners located in each district of the Eastern Cape, enabling it to understand and respond to the voices of the sector. This rich history of presence and impact makes the ECNGOC an organisation that is stable and has the necessary organisational systems and clout to represent the sector within the province.

We believe that, as Freedom of Association is entrenched in the South African constitution, organisations cannot be prevented from forming. However it is imperative that there is a sound historical or other basis for supporting new partnerships and collaborations. So we urge all Members and Partners to assess the standing and credibility of any organisation before considering it seriously.

If you have any questions, please consult Ms. Margaret Kusambiza, ECNGOC Director on 043 726 4014.

Sincerely,

Margaret Kusambiza
Director
